Emerging Artist Program

The Emerging Artists Program provides funding and performance opportunities to young musicians. This program was the brainchild of Amadeus founder Timothy Rowe and was instituted in his memory. Since its inception, the program has awarded over $30,000 to individual musicians and education entities.

Amadeus Emerging Artists include

  • 2021-22 Season: Students of the Peabody Conservatory Olivia Chen (violin), Kyungwha Chu (piano) and Jun Luke Foster (piano); Prizewinners of the Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association Concerto Competitions: Angela Zhang (piano), Kevin Wu (clarinet), Christopher Tate (cello), Mikhail Mints (clarinet), Jude Giddens (piano), and Runa Matsushita (violin).
  • 2019-20 and 2020-21 Season: Emerging Artists concerts canceled due to COVID pandemic
  • 2018-19 Season: Prizewinners of the Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association Concerto Competitions: Anne Valerie Ter (piano), Ethan Chien (viola), Sophia Lin (piano), Emma Kim (violin), Christopher Papenfuss (piano), Jeremy Foster (violin), Fay Shuai (cello), and Leelee Kopca (clarinet)
  • 2017-18 Season: Julia Angelov, violin; Oscar Paz-Suaznabar, piano; The Bonis Ensemble (Peabody Conservatory)
  • 2016-17 Season: The Daraja Ensemble
  • 2015-16 Season: The Verona String Quartet (formerly the Wasmuth String Quartet)
  • 2014-15 Season: violin/piano duo Brendan Conway and Florian Noack
  • 2013-14 Season: The Children’s Chorus of Washington
  • 2012-13 Season: The Calidore String Quartet
  • 2011-12 Season: violin/cello duo Josef Špaček and Petr Špaček sdf
  • 2010-11 season: soloists from Music Friends at the Alden
  • 2009-10 Season: singers from the Washington National Opera Domingo-Cafritz Young Artists: Brandy Lynn Hawkins, Emily Albrink, and Jennifer Lynn Waters
  • 2008-09 Season: guitarist Berta Rojas and musicians from the National Symphony Orchestra Young Fellows Program: Hillary Tidman, flute; Stephen Tavani, violin; Philip Munck, cello; Angelina Savoia, harp.
  • 2007-08 Season: soprano Jessica Swink Stecklein and pianist John Chen
  • 2006-07 Season: college freshman from Northern Virginia (Alexander White, trumpet; Rena Kimura, violin; Tiera Furby, soprano; Mindy Heinsohn, flute)
  • 2005-06 Season: Duo Esperance (Bridget Kibbey, harp & Julietta Curenton, flute)

Awardees are chosen by the Artistic Director in consultation with the Board of Directors, on the basis of excellence and commitment to music. With additional funding, the program would be able to award more scholarships to deserving students and exceptional local organizations.
